Biography
Naomi Bean is a mixed media artist based in rural Leicestershire, England. Her art journey began with an extreme illness which left her with PTSD and the realisation that words could not communicate the depth and strength of emotions. Her autism and chronic illness, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), also give her a unique view on the world and drives her desire to find a shared language to express our inner thoughts.
With a background in the sciences, and a lifetime observing nature and the world around her, Naomi has a good understanding of natural processes and the creatures that inhabit it. She brings this understanding into her art to give a realism so that it resonates with the viewer. This may explain why one of her pieces was stolen from a professional gallery over the summer.
Images haunt Naomi until fully realised in whichever medium best suits the final output. As her aim is to express and communicate, a wide variety of mediums are used, which also suits Naomi’s interest in experimentation.
Seeing people connect, respond and relate to her art drives her forward. Her art particularly resonates with those with neurodiversity, mental health struggles or chronic illness; groups which can be ignored and excluded from society. She wants her art to make people feel less alone, to challenge assumptions and to provide a springboard for conversations about difficult topics, bringing people together.
